Soko Joshi is San Francisco's all women judo club. It was founded by Sensei Keiko Fukuda, the first and only woman awarded the 10th degree black belt, and the last surviving student of Dr. Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo. Sensei Fukuda passed away 3 years ago at the age of 99. The film Mrs. Judo: Be Strong, Be Gentle, Be Beautiful documents her life and extraordinary journey.

In my visit to Soko Joshi, I had the honor to meet with some of Sensei Fukuda's original students. We talked about the impact Sensei Fukuda had on her community, the legacy of Soko Joshi, and the important role judo has played in the lives of the club members and instructors.
